1. Check the back of the computer so that the printer is plugged in. Open the 'Start' menu and click on the 'Control Panel.'
2. Open the 'Printers and Faxes' option if you are using the classic view. Or, if you are using category view, click the 'Printers and other Hardware' button and then click on the 'Printer and Faxes.' Ultimately, you should end up on the 'Printers and Faxes' window. The printers you have on your computer will appear in this window.
3. Right-click the printer you wish to check. Go to the 'Properties' option. This will display general information about the printer, including the current ink levels.
Checking with Manufacturer's Software in XP
1. Open the 'Start' menu and click on 'All Programs.'
2. Select the folder that contains the software that came with your printer.
3. Open the program that contains the software and check the ink levels from there.
