How to Connect an iMac to a VGA Monitor (5 Steps)

1. Shut your iMac down completely.
2. Find the iMac's mini DVI port on the back of your unit. There will be a set of ports in a straight line on the back, the mini DVI port is identified by a symbol. The symbol shows a small box with two lines parallel to the box on both sides of it.
3. Connect the mini DVI end of the mini DVI to VGA adapter to the mini DVI port on the iMac. The mini DVI end of the adapter is much smaller than the VGA end of the adapter.
4. Connect either end of your VGA cable to the VGA end of the mini DVI to VGA adapter. The VGA end of the adapter is the larger end.
5. Connect the opposite end of the VGA cable to the VGA port located on your monitor. Most monitors have a VGA port that is royal blue and features the same box symbol with two lines as the mini DVI.
