How to Convert a Serial Port Printer to a USB Port

1. Connect the serial adapter onto the end of the serial cable running from the printer. The other end of the adapter has a USB connection on it, allowing you to plug your printer into any computer with a USB port.
2. Plug the USB end of the adapter into an available USB port on a computer. However, even if the printer's power is turned on, you may notice the computer does not state it has detected a new piece of hardware. This is because the computer does not recognize the adapter.
3. Insert the adapter's driver installation disk into the computer. Wait for the installation wizard to load, then follow the prompts to complete the setup. Once the driver installation finishes, you can begin using the serial port printer on your computer.
4. Install the driver on all computers you intend to use with the printer. Without the driver, the computers cannot read the data transfer through the serial port adapter.
