1. Make every print count. Proofread every document before sending it to the printer to ensure that reprints are kept to a minimum. Also, utilize the Print Preview function in your Office software to ensure that the page format is what you are expecting.
2. Don't print what you won't use. Rather than printing an entire web page for a paragraph of important information, copy and paste the pertinent information to a text document and print that. The images and ads that pepper a full web page are a tremendous waste.
3. Print drafts using the 'Draft' setting. If the page you are printing is not for a presentation or final paper, alter the preferences of the print and use the 'Draft' setting. Every Epson printer ships with this setting available through the printer driver, so simply click 'Preferences' before clicking 'Print' to select this option. This will use much less ink and print significantly faster as well.
4. Avoid thick and bold fonts. A small font like Time New Roman will use much less ink over the course of a paper than a wide font like Elephant.
5. Keep your cartridges from drying up. Epson cartridges have been known to clog or dry during extended periods of dormancy. Turning off the printer between uses will keep your unit cooler which can keep your ink from drying up prematurely. Also, try to print something at least once a week to keep the heads utilized. If you let the printer sit for a while, try printing a nozzle check in the 'Maintenance' section of the Epson printer properties. This will utilize all heads, give you an idea if they're all functioning well and use much less in than a cleaning run.
6. Buy cheaper ink. No matter what you do, your cartridges will eventually run out. With Epson printers, purchasing a full set of ink can often total more than the cost of the printer. There are sources available that offer generic ink that will save you a lot of money when it's time to refill.
