How to Troubleshoot an HP 564

1. Turn on your printer and open the print cartridge cover. Wait for the print cartridge carrier to stop moving. Never attempt to work with the cartridges while the carrier is in motion.
2. Tilt the HP 564 cartridge forward, and lift it carefully out of the printer. Sit the cartridge on a paper towel, and leave it there for 5 to 10 minutes while you clean the interior of the printer.
3. Clean all accessible areas of the printer with a small vacuum cleaner like the kind used to clean computer components. Vacuum up any paper dust and ink that could be contaminating the paper path and causing problems with print quality.
4. Dip a soft cloth in warm water, preferably distilled water or purified water, then wring the cloth out until it is barely damp. Clean the print cartridge carriers until no more ink residue or paper dust comes off on the cloth.
5. Pick the HP 564 up and check the paper towel for leaking ink. If ink appears to be leaking, clean the bottom of the cartridge thoroughly, and put it back on the paper towel. Discard the cartridge if it is still leaking, because a leaking cartridge can cause serious problems with the printer.
6. Clean the entire surface of the HP 564 with a soft cloth dipped in warm water. Continue to clean the entire surface to remove any paper dust and inkjet residue, then place the cartridge back in the printer and print a test page.
