How Can I Use a Canon MP160 Printer With Just One Ink Cartridge?

1. Lift the top of the printer and remove any empty ink cartridges from the cartridge carrier. Store away the ink cartridge that you will not use in a cool dry place to prevent it from drying up. You can use this cartridge later, to replace the current one when it has finished.
2. Locate the printer icon in your toolbar. Select the icon and click 'Printer Settings.' A new window will appear, titled 'Canon MP160 Printer Properties.' If you will use the black ink cartridge only, then check the 'Grayscale Printing' box near the bottom of the window. This will print any document in black and white, eliminating the use of color. If you will use the color ink cartridge only, do not select this option.
3. View the tabs at the top of the window and select the 'Maintenance' tab. A new section will appear, allowing you to change various settings by clicking on a radio button. Select the 'Ink Cartridge Settings' button at the bottom of the window. This setting will allow you to choose a specific cartridge to print with. A new window will appear, giving you the option to select the black cartridge, color cartridge or both from a drop-down menu. Select the cartridge desired, then click 'OK.'
4. Close the 'Canon MP160 Printer Properties' window upon completion. Print a test page to ensure that the changes have taken place. If you have placed a new cartridge in the printer, it is best to print the alignment page to make sure that the images being printed will print correctly and will not be offset. Select the 'Troubleshooting' option from the printer icon on your toolbar for further issues on printing.
