1. Verify that a roll of paper is loaded. The printer will print a series of grids and patterns while it cleans the printhead. Avoid using thick media during cleaning cycles.
2. Press the “Menu” button on the printer display and hold it for three seconds to run a basic cleaning cycle.
3. Press the “Menu” button to enter the printer menus. Press the down arrow until the display reads “Test Print.” Press the “Menu” button again. The printer display will read “Nozzle Check.” Press “Menu” once again followed by the “Enter” key (arrow) to execute the nozzle check pattern. The printer will print the pattern and then read the results. If the printer detects a problem, it will automatically run a cleaning cycle.
4. Run a power cleaning cycle if you do not see an improvement in print quality after a few cleaning cycles. The power cleaning uses a lot of ink, so make sure that each of your ink cartridges are at least half full. Press “Menu” followed by the down arrow until “Maintenance” appears on the display. Press “Menu” to enter the maintenance menu. Press the down arrow until “Pwr Cleaning” is highlighted and press the “Menu” key to enter the cleaning menu. Press “Menu” once again followed by the “Enter” (arrow) key to run the power cleaning.
5. Raise or lower the ink levers according to the instructions on the LCD screen during the power cleaning.
6. Print the nozzle check once the power cleaning is complete. If the quality is still poor, turn off the printer and leave it powered off overnight. Run a cleaning cycle in the morning and print a nozzle check pattern. If the print quality still does not improve, you will need to contact Epson to arrange for service.
