How to Replace Ink Tanks on a Canon MP970 Printer

1. Ensure the printer's power cable is plugged into a working electrical outlet. Press the ON/OFF button located in the upper left hand corner of the operations panel to turn the power on.
2. Press the Home button on the control panel. The Home screen will be displayed on the LCD panel. Press the left Function button to display the Current Ink Levels Screen. If a yellow dot with an exclamation mark is displayed one or more ink tanks is low on ink. Replacement is not necessary, but it is recommended that you have a replacement tank on hand. If a red dot with a white X is displayed one or more ink tanks may have run out of ink. These tanks need to be replaced.
3. Open the paper output tray. Lift the printer cover to its fully opened position. Wait while the print head holder moves to the center.
4. Note the ink tanks with fast flashing ink level indicator lamps. These are the tanks that need to be replaced. Press the tab on the corresponding ink tank and lift it straight up to remove it from the printer. Place the empty ink tank in a plastic bag and set aside for proper disposal or recycling.
5. Remove the replacement ink tank from its packaging. Remove the protective film from the ink tank. Remove the protective cap from the bottom of the ink tank.
6. Insert the ink tank into the empty slot. Press down on the tank until it snaps into place. Insure the ink level indicator lamp lights and glows red. Repeat steps 4, 5 and 6 for each additional empty ink tank.
7. Lower the printer cover to its fully closed position. Wait while the print head holder moves to the right. Wait for the MP970 to run an automatic print head cleaning process before attempting to print.
