1. Unplug the MFC-240C from its power source and wait for at least 30 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on again. This will restart the printer to troubleshoot standby error messages.
2. Examine the USB cable connection that connects the MFC-240C with your computer. Make sure the USB cable connects securely to an open USB port on the computer.
3. Replace used ink cartridges with replacement ink cartridges to troubleshoot the 'Machine Error 46' message. The instructions to install these cartridges are both inside the packaging of the replacement ink cartridges as well as in the MCF-240C user's manual.
4. Turn the printer around and remove the 'Jam Clear Cover' located on the rear side to troubleshoot the 'No Paper Fed' error. Gently pull any paper scraps or jammed sheets of paper from the printer roller to clear the paper jam.
5. Push the 'Menu' button on the printer to troubleshoot the 'Out of Memory' error when you scan a document for copying or faxing. Navigate with the arrow buttons to highlight 'Fax' and press 'OK.' Navigate with the arrow buttons to highlight 'Print Fax' or 'Print Document' and press 'OK.' Press the 'Black (Mono)' button and press 'Stop/Exit' when the printer completes the task.
6. Eject the memory card from the media slot on the front of the printer to troubleshoot the 'Media Error' message. Examine the memory card for physical damage, such as scratches or cracks. If you do find physical damages on the card, insert a different compatible memory card.
7. Resend your fax to troubleshoot the 'COMM.ERROR' message. If you still see the error message, you may have a problem with the MFC-240C connection to the telephone line or the telephone line may have problems. Disconnect any other equipment on the telephone line, including modems, extra telephone handsets, answering machines, switching devices and adapters. Examine the telephone line to ensure that it connects directly from the jack on the MFC-240C labeled 'Line' to the telephone wall jack.
