How to Troubleshoot HP F300 Printers

Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and from your computer. Open a browser and go to the HP Support and Drivers website. Under 'select a task and enter product name/number,' select the bullet 'download drivers and software.' From the 'for product' box, enter the model number of your printer and click the double arrows to the right.
2. Reinstall the software from the Web if you get 'Error 1311.' This error occurs on the initial install from the CD that comes with the F300 Printer. The error message is 'Source file not found (cabinet). Verify that the file exist and that you can access it.'
3. Download the latest drivers from the Internet as opposed to uninstalling and reinstalling because the drivers on the CD are outdated or corrupted. Select your Operating System and click Next. Click the plus (+) sign to the left of Drivers and click on the 'Download' button.
Faxing

Verify one end of the phone cord is connected to the printer and the other end is secure in the phone jack. Temporarily disconnect the phone cord and plug a working phone into the jack to ensure you have a dial tone. Check the phone number for your fax to make sure the numbers are accurate.
2. Open your printer and check for paper feed issues. Look for pieces of paper or any other debris that may be stuck in the feed mechanism. Wipe away excessive dust and any other foreign particles.
3. Power down the printer for at least one minute, then turn the power back on. Restart your printer during the process of rebooting your computer. Check the Windows Diagnostic Utility if rebooting and powering down do not work.
Scanning
1. Replace the bulb on the scanner if you are getting no results or prints that are too light or too dark. The maintenance charge for replacing a bulb can be rather expensive; therefore, depending on how much you paid for your All-in-One, it might be more feasible to purchase another printer.
2. Check to make sure your document is face down on your scanner. Clean the glass on the scanner with a clean, partially dampened paper towel. Do not use excessive water when cleaning.
3. Turn the power off on the printer and reboot your computer. Check the Windows Diagnostic Utility for scanning issues just as you would for faxing problems. Both scanning and copying issues require you to uninstall and re-install the drivers for your printer.
Printing and Copying
1. Open up Notepad, type a few words and print a test page. If the test page prints, the problem is more with software and is not a print mechanism issue.

Printer Cartridges
Replace ink cartridges if they are three to four months old. If you have not used the printer that often, and you're having trouble printing and making copies, look to replace the cartridges as part of the troubleshooting process. If the cartridge is defective, the print monitor icons that show how much ink is available may not be accurate.
3. Clean the print heads. Odd colors and missing words or letters is an indication that the cartridge is empty or the print head is dirty. Make sure there's paper and there are no paper jams.
