How to Check the Toner Level on an HP Laserjet 1200 Series

1. Verify the printer is on. Make sure the status light is solid and not blinking (the upper-left light in the light cluster on the front of the printer). Inspect the connection between the printer and the computer and make sure the connections are tightly in place.
2. Load some laser printer paper into the paper tray. Adjust the paper guides on either side of the paper to prevent paper jams or other problems.
3. Open the printer's properties window. This step will vary depending on what version of Windows your computer is running. For Windows XP, click on the 'start' button. Open the printer and faxes window, then find your HP Laserjet 1200 Series printer. Right-click on the printer's icon, then select 'properties.' For Windows Vista, click on the Windows button. Select 'control panel.' Open 'hardware and sound' then 'printer.' Find your HP Laserjet 1200 Series printer and right-click on it. Select 'properties.' For Windows 7, click on the Windows button. Select 'control panel' and then 'printers and devices.' Find your HP Laserjet 1200 Series printer, right-click on it, and select 'properties.'
4. Look for the 'services' tab in your HP Laserjet 1200 Series printer's properties window. Once you find the tab, click on it. Look for a pull down menu called 'print information pages.' Find 'supplies status page' in the tab and click on it.
5. Click on 'print' in the services tab after selecting the 'supplies status page' option. A page will be printed on your HP Laserjet 1200 Series printer that will list an estimated amount of toner left in the cartridge as well as some other potentially useful information about the printer.
