1. Turn the printer off and allow it to sit for at least an hour. The fuser cartridge gets very hot when the printer is on, and you could burn yourself while servicing it unless you allow it to cool thoroughly.
2. Remove the fuser from the printer. One most printers the fuser is located either on the left hand side of the printer or in the back. Consult your owner's manual for the exact location, then open the fuser door and flip down the retaining clips that hold the cartridge in place. Carefully pull the fuser cartridge free of the printer and sit it on a table, desk or other flat surface. You might want to put a drop cloth down first in case the fuser leaks any oil.
3. Wipe the entire surface of the fuser to remove any excess fuser oil.
4. Vacuum the area around the fuser rollers to remove any paper dust and other debris. Use the small knobs on the front of the fuser cartridge to access the fuser roller. A small vacuum like the kind used to service computers works best for this purpose.
5. Put the fuser cartridge back in the printer and turn it on. Allow the printer to warm up, then send a test page to make sure the fuser is working properly.
