HP Printer Is Not Working With AVG Antivirus Software

1. Double-click on the AVG icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the desktop or click on 'Start,' 'All Programs,' 'AVG' and 'AVG User Interface.'
2. Click on 'Tools' from the menu bar. Select 'Firewall Settings.' Select 'Profiles' from the menu on the left. A list of profiles will appear in the window. Click each profile until the Active Profile button turns gray to identify the active profile. This profile, usually labeled 'standalone computer,' is the active profile on your computer. Double-click on the profile to open.
3. Click on 'Defined Services' in the menu on the left. Select 'Add Service.' In the new window, type a name for the service in the Service Name box. Type a text that represents the service and will be easy for you to identify in the future. Possible choices include 'HP' or 'Printer.'
4. Type a description about the service in the Service Description box. Keep the description brief.
5. Click 'Add' to add Service Item 1. Set Protocol to 'UDP.' Type 'in' for Direction. Type '161,427' for Local Ports and '0-65535' for Remote Ports.
6. Click 'Add' to add Service Item 2. Set Protocol to 'UDP.' Type 'out' for Direction. Type '0-65535' for Local Ports and '161,427' for Remote Ports.
7. Click 'Add' to add Service Item 3. Set Protocol to 'UDP.' Type 'in' for Direction. Type '0-65535' for Local Ports and '161' for Remote Ports.
8. Click 'Add' for Service Item 4. Set Protocol to 'TCP.' Type 'in' for direction. Type '0-65535' for Local Ports and '9220,9290,9500' for Remote Ports.
9. Click 'Add' for Service Item 5. Set Protocol to 'UDP.' Type 'out' for direction. Type '0-65535' for Local Ports and '9220,9290,9500' for Remote Ports. Click 'OK.'
10. Click on 'Applications' and 'Various System Services' from the menu on the left-hand side. Select 'Add.' Click on the new rule located at the bottom of the list. Select 'Move Up.' Locate the 'Detail Action' drop-down box. Select 'Allow for All.' Click on 'Defined Services,' select the Service Name you created earlier, and click 'Apply.'
11. Install the HP Printer. An AVG permissions confirmation box appears. Click to place a check mark in the box next to 'Save my answer as a permanent rule, and do not ask me next time,' and click 'Allow for All.'
