How to Clean a Laserjet 1020 (6 Steps)

1. Wipe down the outside of your LaserJet 1020 with a damp cloth. Avoid the use of any cleaners on the outside of the printer. Press the 'Power' button to turn the power to the printer off. Disconnect the electrical cord by pulling it from the wall socket, then from the rear of the printer. Wait for the printer to cool down if it has been running.
2. Open the printer cartridge cover and pull the print cartridge straight up out of the printer. Place a sheet of paper or other cover over the cartridge to protect it from light exposure. Wipe the inside of the print cartridge area with a dry, lint-free cloth. Wipe the cavity where the print cartridge mounts, as well as the paper-feed path.
3. Lift the small tabs on each side of the roller. Rotate the roller toward the front of the printer. Lift the roller out of the printer. Add a small amount of rubbing alcohol to a lint-free cloth and wipe the roller clean. Wipe the roller with a dry, lint-free cloth after cleaning with alcohol. Let the roller dry before installing it back into the printer.
4. Line up the roller in position in the printer. Slide the roller up toward the back of the printer until the plastic tabs line up and slide into place. Insert the printer cartridge, then close the printer cover. Plug the power cord back into the rear of the printer. Plug the opposite end into the power outlet. Press the 'Power' button to turn the power on.
5. Click the 'Start' menu and select 'Printers and Faxes.' Right-click the LaserJet 1020 printer in the menu, then select 'Properties' or 'Preferences.' If you are running Windows Vista, click the Windows icon, select 'Control Panel,' then click 'Hardware and Sound.' Click 'Printer.' Right-click your LaserJet 1020 printer in the menu, then select 'Properties.'
6. Click 'Configure,' then click 'Start' in the section marked 'Cleaning Page.' Click 'OK' to print a cleaning page.
