How to Connect a Dell 948 Printer to a Network

1. Shut down your printer and turn the device around until its rear panel is in view. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer. Locate and remove the small cover from the wireless adapter port, located on the left side of the printer's rear panel.
2. Insert the Dell Wireless Adapter 1000 into the wireless adapter port. Affix the MAC address label that came packaged with your adapter to the rear panel of the printer. Plug the printer's power cord back in and turn the device around until its front panel is in view. Turn on the printer.
3. Insert the 'Drivers and Utilities' CD that came packaged with your printer. When prompted, select the 'Using a wireless network' option and click on the button labeled 'Next.' Follow the onscreen instructions. After the 'Firewall Exception' screen, use the USB cable to connect your printer to your computer .
4. When the 'Configure Your Wireless Printer Adapter' window appears, select the 'Create or modify the printer's wireless settings' option and click on the 'Next' button. Follow the onscreen instructions.
Peer-to-Peer
1. Turn on the computer that is connected directly to the printer and log in to Windows. Open the 'Start' menu and navigate to the option labeled 'Settings.' Navigate to the 'Control Panel' option and select 'Printers and Other Hardware.'
2. Select the option 'Printers and Faxes.' Right-click on the entry that corresponds to your printer and select 'Sharing.' Click on 'Share this Printer' and input a name for your printer. Click on the 'OK' button.
3. Turn on a networked computer and log into Windows. Open the 'Printers and Faxes' screen as before. Click on the 'Add a Printer' option. When the 'Add Printer Wizard' screen appears, click on the 'Next' button. When the 'Local or Network Printer' screen appears, click on 'A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer.' Click on the 'Next' button.
4. Click on the 'Specify a Printer' button. Input the name you assigned to the printer in step one and click on the 'Next' button. Follow the onscreen instructions.
