How do I Troubleshoot a Brother 4750e? (5 Steps)

1. Check the placement of your document when copying or faxing if the copy comes out slanted. This is usually caused by the position of the document. Set the paper guides to fit the document; this will help keep the papers aligned. If the printer is not feeding the paper correctly, check the feeder to see if the paper is torn or curled edges. This will cause the printer to jam or feed more than one piece of paper at a time. Do not overload the feeder with paper and check to see the settings of the printer, manual or automatic--you want automatic. Notice if the paper tray is completely inserted.
2. Clear paper jams by checking if the Mylar film is bent or damaged--refer to the operating manual for placement of the Mylar film. Check the tray feed and remove any paper that may be caught. Do not pull forcefully, as this may leave pieces of the paper in the machine which lead to more error messages of a paper jam.
3. Check to see if the status of the printer is 'Offline.' Click the Brother printer icon and select 'Use Printer Online.' Under the same icon you check if the printer is in pause mode and choose to either resume or cancel the printing job.
4. Clean the scanner window with a clean, soft, moist cloth. This is the area with the white bar and glass. If this surface is dirty, the copies or faxes sent will have streaks or dark specks on the documents sent. Open the front door of the machine and take out the drum assembly to clean the corona wire (be careful because the parts can be very hot) by sliding the tab back and forth several times to clean. When finished, return the tab to the home position.
5. Unplug the printer from the electrical outlet, wait one minute and then replug into outlet. Sometimes a simple reset will correct the keys from not responding when you press them. The keys may also be 'stuck,' so try to rub them to free them.
