1. Open the front of the Canon inkjet printer and wait for the print cartridges to move to the center. Tilt each cartridge forward and carefully lift it out of the printer.
2. Turn the print cartridge upside down so that the metal connectors are facing up. Swab the cartridge thoroughly with a cotton swab dipped in warm water. Use isopropyl alcohol instead of water if the cartridge is heavily soiled with ink residue.
3. Sit the cartridge on a flat surface and allow it to dry thoroughly before putting it back in the printer. Vacuum the interior of the printer, using a small vacuum like the kind used to clean computer parts.
4. Wipe the interior of the printer with a soft cloth to remove any additional ink residue or paper dust. Continue cleaning the printer until no more ink residue comes off on the cloth.
5. Remove all the paper from the paper tray and flip the tray down. Shine a flashlight into the printer and locate any torn or crumpled paper. Grasp the paper with a pair of tweezers and pull it straight out.
