1. Locate the Mfc-685Cw's Ethernet port, which is found by lifting the cover on the top of the unit.
2. Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the Mfc-685Cw that you found in step 1.
3. Place the Ethernet cable along the grooved path leading out of the casing of the unit, then close the printer's cover. Ensure that the cable is not obstructing the printer cover from closing.
4. Plug the remaining end of the Ethernet cable into an available port on the wireless router.
5. Install the wireless router software that came with the unit at time of purchase. If you are unable to locate it, you can visit the manufacturer's website. Entering in the model number in a support and downloads search should populate a list of drivers and installation files needed for your specific router.
6. Go to 'Start,' 'Control Panel,' and select 'Printers' under the 'Hardware and Sound' tab. Select 'Add a Printer' from the list of options on that same screen. Windows will populate a list of available printers on its wireless network, one being the one you are attempting to establish connection with.
7. Double-click on Mfc-685Cw printer's name and select 'Next.' Windows will walk you through the rest of the printer installation process. Upon completion, you will have a wireless connection established between your computer and the Brother Mfc-685Cw.
