How to Print With Black Ink Only in the HP 5550

1. Right-click the printer icon on your computer's taskbar and select 'Change Default Print Settings.' The 'Printer Properties' dialog box will open. Alternatively, click 'Start' and select 'Devices and Printers.' Right-click the printer you want to use to print only in black and white and select 'Printing Preferences.'
2. Click on the 'Color' tab in the dialog box. This will display the current color settings for the HP 5550.
3. Click on the box next to 'Print in Grayscale.' You can select 'High Quality,' 'Black Print Cartridge Only' or 'Optimize for Photocopy or Fax.' Click 'Apply' and 'OK.' A dialog box with the new changes opens.
4. Click 'OK' to save the black and white default setting. The HP Deskjet 5550 will print only with black ink.
