How to Troubleshoot the Epson CX7400 (10 Steps)

1. Check the back of the printer to confirm that the power cord and printer cable are both plugged in. Make sure the 'Power' button is illuminated and that the printer cable is plugged into the computer.
2. Press the printer's 'Power' button to turn it off. Shut down the attached computer and unplug the printer cable from the printer.
3. Make sure there is fresh paper in the input tray. Load several sheets if there is no paper in the tray and adjust the paper width guide to the size of the paper.
4. Press the 'Stop' button while you turn on the printer. Hold both buttons down until the 'Power' button starts to flash. Wait for the diagnostic page to print.
5. Reinstall the printer's software if nothing prints. Turn on the computer and insert the printer's installation disc, then follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer's software.
6. Reconnect the printer cable after the installation process completes. If the printer still will not respond, take it to a repair shop.
Gaps in Printouts
1. Turn on the printer and make sure there is paper in the input tray. Adjust the paper width guide so it presses against the paper without cause it to bend.
2. Press and hold the 'Stop' button on the printer's control panel for 3 seconds. Release the button once you hear noise coming from the printer, indicating that it has started cleaning the print head.
3. Wait for the printer to complete the cleaning process. Print a nozzle check pattern by holding down the 'Stop' and 'Power' buttons at the same time until the 'Power' button starts flashing.
4. Run the print head cleaning again if you notice breaks in the nozzle check sheet's patterns. If you continue to see gaps in the printouts, replace the ink cartridges.
