How to Troubleshoot an Epson NX400

1. Clean the printer's nozzles using the printer's Control Panel. Press the 'Setup' button and use the arrow keys to highlight 'Maintenance' on the printer's screen. Press the 'OK' button. Use the arrow keys to highlight 'Head Cleaning' and press the 'OK' button. Press the 'Start' button to begin the cleaning process.
2. Remove the print media from the input tray and fan through the stack. Remove any pieces of media that are dirty, folded, wrinkled, torn or otherwise damaged and then place the rest of the media in the input tray.
3. Set the media type to match what you have loaded into the printer's input tray. Click on 'File' at the top of the document's window on the computer and click 'Print.' Click the 'Properties' button in the upper-right corner of the window and click the 'Advanced' tab. Use the top pull-down menu under 'Paper and Quality Options' to select the paper type and then click 'OK.'
4. Replace the printer's ink cartridges, since the cartridges being low on ink will lead to faint printouts.
Paper Jams
1. Remove all of the loose paper from the printer's input and output trays. Pull out any stuck paper in the input our output trays, pulling slowly and gently so you do not damage the printer's rollers.
2. Turn off the NX400 by pressing the 'Power' button, if there is any paper stuck inside the printer. Open the printer's top cover and pull out any stuck pieces of paper that you see.
3. Use your fingers to spin the rollers inside the printer, making sure small scraps of paper are not stuck to them. Close the printer's top cover and press the 'Power' button to turn the NX400 on again.
