1. Switch off the computer and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Flip the laptop over so you face the bottom and remove the plastic shell covering the battery bay. Undo the lock by sliding a latch or releasing a clip to remove the cover. Raise the battery from one end and remove it from its dock.
2. Remove the hard disk drive. Undo the compartment cover by removing one or more small screws. Raise the device from its chamber by inserting a flat implement at the edge of the chamber and using it as a lever. Hold the drive and gently remove it from its chamber, taking care not to break its connecting cables. Unplug the cables and detach the drive completely.
3. Remove any CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drives from the laptop. Locate and undo the screw holding the metal bracket surrounding the drive to the laptop's chassis. Firmly hold the two ends of the drive with your middle finger and thumb and pull it outward. Unplug cables connecting the drive to the motherboard or power supply.
4. Remove the wireless card and RAM modules. Undo covers for each compartment under the laptop by releasing locks or removing screws. Uninstall the wireless card by unscrewing the card's bracket and pressing two spring-mounted latches on either side away from each other. When the card springs up, hold from either end and pull it out. Remove the card's connecting cables. Detach the RAM modules similarly; remove the compartment cover, force the latches and pull the module out when it pops out.
5. Detach the keyboard. Remove the keyboard holder---the flat strip bordering the keyboard panel---to access screws underneath. Use a flat-tipped tool as a lever to raise and remove the keyboard holder. The keyboard holder may be removed from different positions, depending on laptop model. Refer to your documentation for model-specific instructions. With the top layer off, unscrew the panel from the laptop's chassis and remove it. Unplug the cable from the keyboard panel.
6. Uninstall the display assembly with its LCD panel. Locate and remove screws from the plastic frame bordering the screen, known as the bezel, to loosen the assembly. Remove small rubber tabs with a pointy tool to access the screws and then separate the screen from the bezel by splitting the frame. You will see the bare LCD screen surrounded by a metal bracket; remove the inverter taped to the bottom of the screen and unplug the power and video cables from the LCD. Completely detach the assembly by pulling it out.
7. Remove the top and bottom covers. Locate and undo screws and any other locking mechanism to release the top cover from the chassis. Gently remove the plastic shell, turn the laptop over and undo screws attaching the bottom cover to the chassis. Depending on the model, you may have to undo up to 20 screws and release numerous locks.
