How to Configure SNMP for HP Printers

1. Open the SNMP Agent application installed on your computer when running the HP printer installation software CD.
2. Type the following commands in the console window visible on the SNMP agent to configure the HP printer to output log files and enable SNMP management of the printer:
syslog-config: 1
syslog-svr: IP-Address-of-your-SYSLOG-server, or localhost
set-cmnty-name: My-SNMP-Password (set this to be your desired password on the printer)
3. Disable unnecessary services on the HP printer such as FTP, Internet Printing Protocol, and the Service Location Protocol to prevent the printer from being hacked. To do this, type the following commands in the console window of the SNMP Agent application:
passwd: Your-printers-password
ipp-config: 0
ftp-config: 0
ews-config: 0
snmp-config: 0
4. Close the SNMP Agent console window by selecting the 'FILE->EXIT' menu options of the SNMP Agent application. SNMP is now enabled on your desktop or laptop.
