How to Fax?

1. Select the papers you wish to fax. Note the phone number of the location you are faxing. Many people have a dual fax and phone line, so make sure the recipient is prepared for your fax or you may receive a busy signal.
2. Fill out a fax cover letter. Most corporations have a specialized cover letter with company logo or letter head and blank spaces for information. While that is helpful, it isn't necessary. A fax cover letter must have the recipient's name and/or business name on it. You must also put your name, your company name and a return phone or fax number on the form as well. It is helpful to note the number of pages included in the fax. This can all be done on a blank sheet of printer paper.
3. Organize the papers you are faxing with the cover letter on top, followed by the first page of the fax, proceeding in order to the last page.
4. Place the papers you wish to fax in the receiving tray of the fax machine, checking to see whether the machine indicates the pages should be face down or face up--face down is most common. If your papers are not facing the correct direction, you will simply be sending blank pages.
5. Dial the fax number of the recipient into the fax machine, using the area code and any other necessary numbers to dial out of your building.
6. Check to make sure all the pages are scanned.
7. Wait until all of the pages have been scanned and the fax machine has finished sending to the recipient. Once the fax has been received on the other end, your fax machine will print a confirmation page, letting you know that the fax is complete.
