1. Turn on the Laserjet P1006 and the computer you wish to use with it. Do not connect the cable between the printer and computer at this time.
2. Insert the P1006's installation disc in the computer's optical drive. If you do not have the disc, open the computer's web browser and navigate to www.hp.com. On the top of the page, click on 'Drivers > Download Drivers and Software.' Type 'Laserjet P1006' in the blank box and press 'Enter' on the keyboard. Click on the operating system the computer is using, then click on the link 'HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver.' In the download window, choose where on your computer's hard drive you want to save the installation software. When the download completes, double-click on the installation software's icon.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions displayed in the installation software. These instructions will vary depending on your computer's operating system. When the installation process is complete, restart your computer. Connect the cable to your computer and printer.
