1. Open the Start menu. Click 'Control Panel' to open the Control Panel window. Click the 'System and Security' link near the top-right corner.
2. Click the green 'System' link in the middle of the window. Scroll down to the 'Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings' section. Click the blue 'Change settings' link near the right edge of the window. This will open the 'System Properties' window.
3. Select the 'Hardware' tab. Click the 'Device Installation Settings' button. A window will open that reads, 'Do you want Windows to download driver software and realistic icons for your devices?' By default, the 'Yes, do this automatically' option will be selected. Select the 'No, let me choose what to do' option. This will enable three further setting options: 'Always install the best driver software from Windows Update,' 'Install driver software from Windows Update if it is not found on my computer,' and 'Never install driver software from Windows Update.' Choose the option that best suits your preferences. When you have made your selection, click 'Save Changes' and close the window.
