How to Reset Toner on the Brother HL

1. Pull down the front cover of the printer to reveal the drum and toner assembly.
2. Grip the center of the drum and toner assembly and pull it from the machine. Place the assembly on paper towels to prevent leaks from creating a mess.
3. Push down the blue lock lever on the left side of the assembly. Lift the toner cartridge out of the drum and toner assembly. Seal the empty cartridge in a plastic bag.
4. Unwrap the new toner cartridge. Loosen the toner by holding the cartridge on both sides and gently shaking it.
5. Remove the protective cover from the new toner cartridge. Place it inside the drum assembly. The blue lock lever automatically rises when the cartridge is inserted properly.
6. Slide the blue tab on the back of the drum and toner assembly back and forth several times to clean the primary corona. Replace the tab to its 'Home' position (represented by a triangle) before continuing.
7. Slide the drum and toner assembly back into the printer and close the front cover. The 'Toner' light should go out.
Check Installation
1. Remove the toner cartridge if the light remains illuminated.
2. Place the cartridge on paper towels. Make sure toner powder is evenly distributed by gently rocking the cartridge from side to side.
3. Replace the toner cartridge. Clean the primary corona thoroughly.
Resetting The Drum
1. Open the front cover of the printer.
2. Press and hold the 'Go' button on the front of the printer for at least four seconds. The lights on the control panel should light up.
3. Release the 'Go' button when the control panel lights are lit. Close the door of the printer.
