How to Replace a Drum on a Brother Copier (12 Steps)

1. Lay out pieces of paper to cover an area about 18 inches by 18 inches on the table adjacent to the copier.
2. Allow the copier to cool off if it has been running recently.
3. Open the front cover of the copier.
4. Grasp the handle inside the front cover and pull to remove the drum unit and toner cartridge. Remove the unit slowly and do not allow the unit to tip.
5. Set the drum and toner cartridge assembly on the paper set out in step 1.
6. Push the green lock lever on the toner cartridge down, then remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit. Set the toner cartridge aside on the paper. Set the old drum unit aside out of the way.
7. Remove the new drum from its packing material.
8. Insert the toner cartridge into the new drum unit until the cartridge clicks into place. If the cartridge is inserted properly, the green lock lever lifts automatically.
9. Grasp the green tab on the drum unit, then slide it back and forth several times. This action cleans the primary corona wire. Return the tab to its home position indicated by the arrow on the drum unit case.
10. Pick up the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly, then insert it back into the copier. Be certain the assembly is fully seated, but don't force it. Remove and reseat the assembly if you encounter resistance before the assembly is fully seated.
11. Press the 'Clear/Back' button.
12. Close the front cover when the control panel displays 'Accepted.'
