How to Put OS X on a Dell Inspiron (18 Steps)

1. Obtain the ISORecorder software (see Resources) via download. Install the application.
2. Obtain Chameleon Bootloader and the Boot-132 Generic ISO file (see Resources) via download.
3. Locate the Generic Boot-132 ISO in Windows Explorer. Right-click the ISO. Select 'Record to CD' to burn the disk image using ISORecorder.
4. Click the 'Burn' button. Place the blank CD/R in the disc drive when the tray opens and then close the tray. When the burn process finishes, the Boot CD is ready for use.
Boot Using Boot CD
1. Reboot the computer. Press the appropriate key at the BIOS screen (usually 'F2,' 'F10,' 'F12' or 'Esc' depending on the BIOS) to change the order of boot devices. Select the CD/DVD drive as the first boot device. Reboot the computer again.
2. Press 'Enter' to proceed at the first boot prompt. Eject the Boot CD immediately afterward.
3. Insert the Leopard DVD into the CD/DVD drive. Press 'Enter' at the second boot prompt. The OS/X installation will now begin.
Install Leopard
1. Choose 'English' from the language list.
2. Open the Disk Utility application found in the 'Utilities' menu.
3. Locate the computer's hard disk in the drive list. Click the 'Format' button. Choose 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' from the list of available format options. Exit Disk Utility by choosing 'Quit Disk Utility' from the 'Disk Utility' menu or by pressing the Windows key and the 'Q' key at the same time.
4. Click the 'Continue' button. Click 'Agree' at the licensing agreement screen.
5. Choose the previously formatted disk drive. Click the 'Continue' button. The installation process may take some time to complete.
6. Eject the Leopard DVD when the installation is finished. Place the Boot CD back in the disc drive. Reboot the computer.
Install Chameleon
1. Press 'Enter' at the initial boot prompt as before.
2. Enter '80' as the value and press 'Enter' at the second boot prompt.
3. Select the hard drive containing the OS/X installation. Press 'Enter' to boot into OS/X.
4. Connect the USB drive to the computer and navigate to its contents in Finder.
5. Open Chameleon and follow the on-screen prompts to install the software. This program allows OS/X to boot on its own without using the Boot CD.
