How to Upload Photos from a Canon EOS With No CD

1. Check your camera settings to make sure you are shooting in JPG mode. DSLR cameras and certain high-end compact cameras have a RAW photo mode. This mode takes uncompressed shots and stores all photo information, like white balance, exposure and shutter speed, for post-processing on the computer. Shooting RAW is great for having full control of your shots, but not convenient when you don't have the Canon-supplied software, which you need to read these photos. Avoid shooting in RAW if you don't have your CD.
2. Connect the EOS camera to your PC, and turn the camera on. By default, your computer recognizes the camera and opens an 'Auto Play' window with a few choices. If this wizard doesn't appear, proceed to Step 4. Depending on how you've configured your computer, you may see different options here, but all Windows-based PCs using at least Windows XP have a built-in photo transfer program. Choose 'Transfer Photos Using Microsoft Photo and Scanner Wizard.' A program appears with a list of your photos shown as thumbnails. Click the checkbox beside a photo to select it for transfer, or click 'Select All' to highlight all photos. Click 'Next' to confirm your choice, and then choose a folder to store the files in. Click 'Next' again to begin transferring.
3. Look in your computer for a built-in card reader. A lot of laptops now come with a media card slot that can read SD cards, which Canon's EOS digital cameras use. You can insert the SD memory card from your EOS directly into the card slot and transfer photos by copying and pasting the images from one folder to another.
4. Connect the camera via the USB cable and turn it on. Don't worry if a wizard or 'Auto Play' wizard doesn't appear; you can still access the photos. Click 'Start' and 'Computer' (or 'My Computer' in Windows XP). Under 'Computer' on the left-hand side, look for 'Canon Digital Camera.' Click on the camera to browse to the memory card, which Windows sees as an external drive or flash drive. You can copy your images from here to a folder on your computer.
5. Upload your images to the host of your choice. There are lots of free options out there, like Flickr and Picasa, or you can just share your photos through your Facebook account. The upload features differ between photo hosts, so check with your specific photo website for instructions. Usually, you log in to your account, click 'Upload,' and then choose files from your computer.
