How to Update Printer Drivers in XP

1. Click the icon to open your Internet browser, then click the link to the printer manufacturer's website. Click the 'Downloads' or 'Support' link on website to open that section. Enter your printer's model number, then click the link to download the driver file to your hard drive. Remember where you saved the file.
2. Click on 'Start' on the taskbar at the bottom of the desktop to show the Start menu. Select 'Run' from the menu which opens a dialog box. Type 'control printers' in the field labeled 'Open,' then click the 'OK' button to open the 'Printers and Faxes' window.
3. Right-click on the printer to show a pop-up menu, then select 'Properties' to open a dialog box.
4. Click the 'Advanced' tab to the front of the box, then click on 'New Driver' to open the 'Add Printer Driver Wizard.'
5. Click on the 'Next' button in the wizard to advance to the next page, then click the 'Have Disk' button, which opens another box labeled 'Install From Disk'; disregard that you are not actually using a disc.
6. Click the 'Browse' button, opening another dialog box. Find and click the printer driver file to highlight it, then click the 'OK' button to close the box.
7. Click the 'Next' button, then follow the instructions as they appear on the screen to complete the driver update.
