1. Before printing your document, be sure the page size is set to legal paper. Go to 'File> Page Setup' and then click on the 'Paper Size' tab. Select 'Legal' from the drop-down menu.
2. Go to the printer and take out the paper tray. Remove the letter size paper.
3. Insert about one half of the package of legal size paper into the tray, depending on the depth of your tray. Larger printers can accept an entire package, while smaller ones cannot.
4. Make sure that the paper goes underneath the metal clips located at both the front and back of the tray.
5. For printers that don't have a tray, you'll have to manually feed the legal size paper. Locate the paper feed either on the front or rear of the printer.
6. Put a few sheets of legal size paper into the paper feed. The paper should be placed as close to the rubber spindles as possible. These spindles will draw the paper into the machine and feed it through the printer.
7. Print a test page.
