1. Insert the HP Scan Pro installation disc that came with your scanner into your Apple computer. Download a copy of the software from the HP website if you do not have a physical copy of the disc available. Install the program and restart the computer, if prompted.
2. Double click on the HP Scan Pro shortcut, which is located on the bottom of your screen in the programs dock. This will activate your scanner and prepare it for your scanning job. Wait for a window with various options to appear.
3. Set your scanning preferences. Choose either 'True Color' or 'Black and White' from the 'Output Type' section. Use the color setting for copying photographs and the black and white setting for text documents.
4. Change the resolution and sharpness using the dialog boxes in the middle of the window. Increase the scanner's resolution to improve the detail of the scan. Improve the sharpness to make photos and text appear more crisp and defined. Use the 'Dust and Scratch Removal Tool' to digitally remove artifacts from a physically damaged photo.
5. Click on the 'Scan' tab at the top of your screen and select the sub-header titled 'Accept.' Choose a file format for your scanned image from the drop-down menu entitled 'File Format.' Select the format that you wish to save in and click on the 'Save' button. Allow the scanning process to complete and close out of the program.
