How to Set Up 802.11 Wireless on an HP DeskJet 460 Printer

1. Turn on your Macintosh or PC compatible computer and wait for the operating system to fully load. You will need to have your network name (SSID) and security password needed to gain access to your network handy. Have your HP 802.11 wireless printer card ready as well.
2. Turn on your network router and disconnect any connections you may have between the printer and the computer. Exit any applications you may have running on your computer.
3. Insert the HP 802.11 printer card into the CompactFlash slot on the left side of your printer and turn the printer on. Make sure you insert your HP 802.11 printer card so that the LED lights face upwards.
4. Insert the HP Deskjet 460 printer installation disc into your computer's CD/DVD drive and wait for the installation wizard to appear on your screen. Follow the installation prompts to continue the setup process.
5. Choose the “Through the network” menu selection when presented with the connection type options. The installation program may present an error message stating that it cannot find your wireless printer; this is normal, click “Next” to continue the installation process.
6. Connect your USB cable from your printer to an available USB slot on your computer when prompted. Click the “Next” button located on the installation dialog box to continue. The installation program will now search for your computer network and display the results on the installation screen.
7. Choose the correct wireless network from the options presented on the screen and click on the “Next” button to continue. Enter your network password when prompted and click “Next” to continue. The installation program will then set up your printer on the wireless network; click on the “Next” button to finish the process and print a test report.
8. Disconnect the USB cable from your printer and computer when prompted. Continue through the installation prompts and print out a photo test page. The installation program will close automatically when the process completes.
