How to Use the Scanner in My Brother 7840W

1. Lift the scanner cover, located on the top panel of the printer. Place the document you wish to scan face down on the glass. Align one end of the document with the lines printed to the left of the scanner glass. Lower the scanner cover.
2. Launch the 'ScanSoft PaperPort 11SE' application. Open the 'File' menu, and select the option labeled 'Scan or Get Photo.' Click on the button labeled 'Select.' Click on the listing labeled 'TW-Brother MFC -7840W (TW-Brother DCP-7840W)' or 'TW-Brother MFC-7840W (TW-Brother DCP-7840W).' Click on the check box labeled 'Display Scanner Dialog Box.' Click on the button labeled 'Scan.'
3. Browse the options displayed on the left side of the 'Scanner Setup' window. Select the 'Scan' option that matches the type of document you are scanning; choose 'Photo' for images that you intend to print, 'Web' for images that you plan to share online or 'Text' for text documents. Adjust the resolution and scan type settings, if desired. Click on the button labeled 'PreScan,' located in the upper-right corner of the window. Wait for the device to scan the document before proceeding.
4. Review the results of the scan in the window. Adjust the brightness and contrast settings, if desired. Click and drag over the scanned image to crop the scan down to the selected area. Click 'Start' to perform a final scan of the document.
5. Open your computer's 'My Documents' folder. Find and open the folder labeled 'My PaperPort Documents.' Locate the scanned image within the folder.
Macintosh
1. Lift the scanner cover, located on the top panel of the printer. Place the document you wish to scan face down on the glass. Align one end of the document with the lines printed to the left of the scanner glass. Lower the scanner cover.
2. Launch the 'ControlCenter 2' application. Click on the button labeled 'SCAN,' located on the left side of the application window. Click on the icon that corresponds to the desired destination for your scanned document.
3. Select the preferred application from the 'Target Application' menu to determine which program the computer will use to open the scanned image. Select the preferred file format from the 'File Type' menu; for general use, select the 'JPEG' option. Adjust the 'Resolution' setting to the desired image quality level. Adjust the 'Scan Type' setting to the desired color depth. Adjust the document size settings to match the size of the image you are scanning. Click on the check box labeled 'Show Scanner Interface.' Click 'OK.' Wait for the device to scan the document before proceeding.
4. Review the results of the scan in the window. Adjust the brightness and contrast settings, if desired. Click and drag over the scanned image to crop the scan down to the selected area. Click on the button labeled 'OK' to perform a final scan the document. Wait for the device to scan the document; the scanning software will automatically open the saved image in the program that you selected in the 'Target Application' setting.
