1. Launch the Canon ScanGear program on your computer.
2. Open the Canon MP190 scanner lid and put the document you want to scan face down on the scanner area. Close the Canon MP190 scanner lid.
3. Click the drop-down menu under “Select Source” in ScanGear and select the type of document you are scanning. You can select “Photo (Color),” “Magazine (Color),” “Newspaper (B&W)” or “Document (Grayscale).”
4. Click “Preview” to see what the document will look like after being scanned. If the scanned document does not fully show up, lift the lid and adjust the document. Click “Preview” again to make sure that the document appears exactly as you want.
5. Click the drop-down menu under “Destination” and select where the scanned document will go. You can choose to print it in color or black and white, or save it.
6. Click the drop-down menu under “Output Size” to choose the size of the scanned document. You can choose either 'Flexible' or a set size. With 'Flexible,' you can manually adjust the size of the document.
7. Click “Adjust cropping frames” to adjust the area of the scanned document that will be saved. If you are scanning a photo, for instance, you will want to adjust the scanned document so that only the photo shows up in the final scanned document and not a huge blank area.
8. Click “Scan” to complete the process of scanning with a Canon MP190.
