How to Reset HP Cartridge Chips

1. Carefully remove the ink cartridge from the printer.
2. Hold the cartridge so the glossy, dotted side--the chip--is facing you and place a small piece of tape over the top left 'dot,' which is the left contact.
3. With the tape still on, place the cartridge back in the printer. Wait for the printer to automatically print an alignment page before proceeding to next step.
4. Remove the cartridge from the printer.
5. Repeat Step 2, except this time place a piece of tape over the top right contact.
6. Place the cartridge back in the printer, with both pieces of tape still on it. Wait for the printer to print another alignment page before proceeding to next step.
7. Remove the cartridge from printer and carefully remove both pieces of tape. Make sure there is no adhesive residue left on the chip.
8. Place the cartridge back into the printer. The cartridge ink level should now read as full.
