1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power adapter from the power port of the LaserJet printer and from the power outlet, if the printer refuses to power up. Remove any second power sources like surge protectors or power strips, and then plug the power adapter from the printer's power port and directly into a power outlet. Turn on the printer and see if it powers up.
2. Secure the connection of the data cable from the data port of the printer into a USB or parallel port of the computer, if the computer cannot detect the device.
3. Install the printer driver to your computer if it is not installed yet. Click 'Start' and then 'Devices and Printers.' Browse through the list of printers installed on the computer. If 'HP LaserJet 1320 printer' is not listed, the printer driver is not installed. Place the printer installation CD into the optical drive of your computer, wait for the installer to automatically launch and follow the installation instructions.
4. Open the print cartridge door of the device, remove the print cartridge and remove any piece of paper inside the printer to clear a paper jam error. Open the 'Straight-through output door' and pull the green lever downward. Remove any visible pieces of paper. Place the print cartridge back into its slot, close the 'straight-through output door' and the print cartridge door. Note that if you do not troubleshoot a paper jam error, you will not be able to continue printing any document until the error is cleared.
