How Do I Fix a HP Printer C4240 Grinding Noise?

1. Turn off the printer and remove the power cord from the back. Remove all the paper from the paper tray.
2. Move the paper guides as far to the sides as they will go. This makes it easier to look inside the printer and the paper path.
3. Shine a flashlight into the printer, where the paper feeds into the unit. Pull out any crinkled or torn paper. Use a pair of tweezers to remove any small pieces. Stuck paper at the start of the paper path is the most common cause of a grinding noise in the C4240.
4. Feel inside the printer and locate the print feed rollers. Use a damp cloth to clean the rollers by holding the cloth in one hand and slowly turning the roller with the other. Over time, paper dust and dirt can accumulate on the rollers and make it difficult for them to pull the paper through the printer.
5. Check for any labels that might be stuck to the print rollers. Labels can sometimes detach from their sheets and wrap around the rollers. To remove those stuck labels, dampen a cloth and wrap it around the roller to loosen the adhesive, then carefully peel away the label.
6. Plug the printer in and open the front cover. Watch as the print cartridges move to the center. If you hear a grinding noise while the print cartridges are moving, remove the cartridges and clean them thoroughly to remove any built-up ink residue.
