1. Purchase a universal chip-reset device, sold at a variety of ink-supply and electronics stores. See References below to locate one, or perform a search online for 'universal chip resetters' to obtain yours.
2. Grasp the chip reset device in one hand so the metal contact pins on the side of the resetter are facing towards your other hand. These pins will make contact with the chip on the cartridge to reset it.
3. Hold the C3100 ink cartridge in your other hand with the metal tabs on the chip facing towards the chip-reset device. Line up the tabs with the chip-reset pins. Make sure each tab is lined up with at least one of the pins.
4. Press the cartridge and chip reset device together so the pins and tabs contact. When the red light on top of the chip reset device starts blinking, the tabs and pins are in contact. Hold the two objects together until the lights turn green and blink.
5. Remove the cartridge from the chip-reset device. Open the printer access door and install the cartridge in the printer. Print a test page by opening up any type of document and selecting File and then Print. There should be no ink-level warning. If there is, repeat the above steps and reinstall the cartridge, testing it again, until the ink-level warning does not appear.
