1. Find the menu dial on the top of the camera. With the lens facing away from you, it is located on the top right side of the camera body. The dial lies directly to the left of the 'On/Off' switch.
2. Turn the dial clockwise as far as it will go. The last dial mode is represented by a rectangle with a lightning bolt and a line through it. This is the 'Flash Disable' mode.
3. Check the numeric display on the viewfinder. If the number is blinking, then there is very little light and the shutter will have to be left open for a long time to take a picture.
