1. Get into the 'Control Panel' of the PC. To gain access to the 'Control Panel,' go to the 'Start' menu and click 'Control Panel.'
2. Click on either the 'Printers and Other Hardware' or 'Hardware and Sound' option from the Control Panel menu. A list of all of the device types that are installed onto the system is displayed.
3. Select the 'View installed printers' or 'Printers' option in the device list to see all printers that are available on the computer network. Then, click the radio button near the 'Share this printer' option in the window that comes up, type in a printer name and click the 'OK' button. In Vista, right-click the printer that you want your laptop to be able to share and choose the 'Sharing' option. Click 'Change sharing options,' then 'Share this printer,' type in a name and click the 'OK' button.
4. Access the 'Control Panel' on the laptop computer. Choose 'Printers and Other Hardware' or 'Hardware and Sound.'
5. Select 'Add a printer' from the options. When the 'Add Printer' window opens, choose 'Add a network, wireless or Blue Tooth printer.' Click 'Next.'
6. Click on the printer you want the laptop to print to and click the 'OK' button. The printer is now available for use on your laptop.
Wired Connection
1. Install any software that came with the printer onto the laptop. This software generally includes only the printer drivers that allow the printer to interact with your computer.
2. Disconnect the printer cable from the port on your computer and plug it into your laptop. If your printer cable does not use a USB connection, you may need an adapter for your printer cable. The type of adapter that you need depends upon the cable of your printer, but USB-to-RS-232 is the most likely.
3. Open the 'Start' menu and choose 'Control Panel' on your laptop. Go to 'Printers and Other Hardware' or 'Hardware and Sound.'
4. Click the 'Add a printer' option and then select 'Add a local printer' from the options. Click the 'Next' button to view the printer list. Choose the printer from the list of displayed devices and press the 'OK' button.
